Autumn

We've had a fabulous Summer on Odin Green. There's been plenty of sunshine and just enough rain to keep the trees strong and healthy. We've welcomed several new members to our growing community and seen construction begin on the first straw bale house! Stay tuned for a special article on the house (coming soon!) as we take an inside look at its construction and the ecological advantages of straw-bale architecture.

Autumn has been beautiful, as usual: the geese gather in the south channel as they prepare to migrate,  the surrounding fields turn to gold, and the farmer's markets start selling perfect pumpkins and sumptuous squash.

We've taken quite a few trips to the farmer's market in Arnes, about a 15 minute drive north of Gimli. They're open until late Fall and have a magnificent selection of fresh produce, fresh doughnuts if you get there early enough, and a homemade oven for firing pizza! Grab some coffee and wander by the livestock pens with your kids - you'll find goats, pigs, and rabbits! This time of year, you'll also find a fine selection of pumpkins that will come in handy for Hallowe'en.

We've also been eyeing the local wild rose bushes and their juicy-looking Rosehips so we can make Rosehip syrup. The advantages are twofold: it is both extremely delicious and brimming with vitamin C to fend off Winter colds and flu! What with the recent snow fall, they should be just ready for picking.

That's what we've been up to. How about you? Talk to us on Twitter (@Odingreengimli) or Facebook, or hey - give us a ring! We'd love to take you on a tour.
